buying sinlge ram sticksx2 vs a pair

I found that buying 2x single 8 gb sticks is cheaper then buying a pair already 2x8

So I was wondering if buying a pair is better and are they optimized to work together or there is no difference

I want to buy ddr4 corsair lpx 2666 c16 ram for asus z170a board

shouldn't be any difference between buying a kit or buying two of the same ram

A kit is guaranteed to work in that configuration. Add more sticks isn't guaranteed to work although it most likely will.

Just make sure that they are the same frequency so that they don't clock down and you'll be fine.

Given the maximum capacity of RAM my board supports, divide it by the number of RAM slots it has. That's the capacity per stick I'll get. I want a straight upgrade path.

Depending on that logic you might have to buy 32gb sticks

Depends on the user. For me, I'll use memory intensive applications so it's worth it. Single, dual, triple, quad channel speeds are negligible anyway.
