Usb drive not bootable?

I plug one flash drive in and install inux it doesn't boot

i put it on another flash drive dif bran and it works

Both are 3 years olds

Sounds like your first flash drive is broken... does it work for other stuff?

Some flash drives can't be booted from. I've had some drives that work just fine for storage, but won't become bootable, no matter what I tried. 

 

EDIT: Something you could try is going into Disk Management and seeing if the drive has multiple partitions. If it does, combine them all into a single partition and re-format.

yea works just fine.

Ah, it's a SanDisk drive? Did it have their weird "vault" security thing? I've got once of those drives that can't be booted from.

it didn't have any of that thrid party stuff on it.
