im looking to building a new pc soon

mrtippmann

why is the i5 a better option then the i7

Gotta quote people man

the i5 would be better because you could overclock it for the 144hz display and eliminate any CPU bottlenecks, and it would cost about the same as just the i7/Xeon 1231v3

it's about the only thing you need an overclockable i5 for, as with a 144hz display you want to get your minimum frame rate as high as possible, otherwise an i5 4460 at 3.2ghz is fine for 60hz

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

You could, but it would also cost a lot more, if you're just gaming the i5 is fine

if you're doing like rendering or a bunch of virtual machine stuff, then get the 5820K

Also the Nano just dropped in price, probably the best high end GPU to get right now, though again if you pay the extra and OC the 980ti it would be faster, but I wouldn't say it's worth it with the money you save going AMD

also the 390 + 144hz display is still an option, probably a better choice as well than the 980ti
