Web hosting help

Go to solution Solved by Hazy125,

Usually Windows = ASP.NET backend for your website while Linux = PHP backend. You can get both to work on either but meh, Windows fails at handling PHP without some annoying configuration time and Linux fails at ASP.NET from a performance standpoint, even going through Apache CGI stuff.

I suggest going Linux, if you want to actually learn how to use dynamic server side programming crap, PHP is easier to pick up and use. If you're not willing to spend a couple of months to properly learn stuff and test and what not, a service like squarespace might just be easy. Although, I've never actually used them and have no idea if they have YouTube API stuff. It might be simply not feasible to run a proper site for a YouTube channel with squarespace

EDIT: You can get fairly good web hosting for like $5 a month. If you wanna play around, it might be worth trying that. Don't splash out on a $15 VPS or do what I do and have a couple of $150 per month dedicated servers

Ive been looking at different web hosts and I have noticed that most have Linux and Windows packages so I wanted to know what the difference is between both operating systems also if i had to make my own web server should I use windows or Linux(price of software doesn't matter)

Go with Linux hosting.  Unless you are going to get a dedicated server and handle your own configurations which is very expensive, you'll be using shared hosting.  As for what sort of hosting you need... that's for you to figure out.

What sort of bandwidth, storage space, number of email accounts, etc. do you need for your website?

If i got a dedicated server would I need server hardware or could i just build a PC with an I3/I5 ? and should I use Linux or Windows for my own server? The website is for my YouTube channel

You can rent a dedicated server from a hosting company... but do you need it? Can you afford the price?

If you have absolutely NO CLUE OR IDEA about web hosting, perhaps you shouldn't be thinking about creating a website at all, or go do some research on your own.

I was thinking about using squarespace. I just wanted to know the difference and was thinking about making my own server because it would be a good learning experience
