My PC keeps crashing.. Tried everything I could think of

joppetie

Hey there,

For a few months now, my PC keeps crashing every time I use it, pretty much.

Games crash to desktop, other programs crash when playing games and I get bluescreens (even when just browsing the web). (almost always with different error codes, have used Microsoft hotfixes)

My PC basically became frustrating to use to the point where it is almost unusable. I can't play most games for more than ~45 min without crashing.

To try and resolve this issue, I formatted my SSD and reinstalled Windows 7, disabled all my overclocks, ran Memtest86 and only installed all the necessary drivers.. But it hasn't fixed it.

Full specs are in my signature.

People have suggested that it might be my PSU, but I don't want to buy a new one without first testing if it's maybe something else.

Any clue what to do?

Many thanks in advance!

Hmmm.... It does sound like maybe a PSU issue, it cannot take the punishment after a while and this can cause blue screens and a game to crash!!! My old rig was the same and a fresh PSU (same one as now actually) fixed it right up!!! Maybe ur only option, those CX PSU's cant have a few issues!!

You can get power supply testers, basic units for $7 and more advanced ones for up to $30, so if you don't have a spare PSU sitting around to test with, this would be a good way to isolate power delivery.

But do you think a faulty PSU can cause my PC to crash (0,5-1 times a day) while not under any sort of load. Like when just browsing the web?

It's possible. Dirty wall power can add small inconsistencies and cause it to malfunction, as well as additional CPU pull from background applications updating or doing their thing.

Yes, mine certainly did...

Hey dude,

I used to have a very similar problem with my PC and fixed it and it did usually happen when drawing a lot of power from the wall into the motherboard when I was playing intensive games. To fix this problem I had to scout around the web to solve the issue I fixed it by going into my BIOS settings and turning off the electric surge protection setting in which then the computer would not turn its self off because it thought it was having a power surge and was too sensitive. This will not harm your PC all it will do is make it less sensitive when drawing more power from the wall.

Hope this helps,

-JeffTec
