Thanks guys.

Does the USB have to be empty or can there be data already on it?

Forgive my ignorance on this :(

@Wingfan There is a bit more to rufus than just using it. Just ask @Charger when I helped him. All depends on the age of your motherboard, what OS you are installing, and if everything is UEFI compatible.

I also would not change your boot order. Always set either your main HDD or Windows boot manager as your first boot device. To install select the flash drive using the boot menu if your system has that or with newer ASUS board boot override in the Boot tab in the UEFI.

For win10 you are going to need a 8Gb drive minimum. I would also get a USB 3.0 one and use a USB 3.0 port if you are doing a UEFI/GPT install.

I will be using this for my bench build. MSI Z97.

It will be Win7.

I will be using a OCZ Vertex SSD, it has data on it so will i get the option to reformat it?

Well here is a clean Win7x64SP1 All version ISO http://goo.gl/p96UU5

Download rufus. I usually grab the portable version since I wont be installing it.

Load the image. Icon to do so is next to FreeDOS looks like a disc drive logo.

Once loaded set partition scheme to "MBR for BIOS or UEFI" this should default to NTFS and 4096.

Name the drive whatever you want

in your BIOS enable the CSM and set everything to BIOS or Legacy. Change whatever other settings in your BIOS you want and save and restart.

Disconnect the sata cables of all the drives you are non install windows on.

The in your boot menu select the new flash drive.

If you asking me if you can partition your drive during an install have you never installed windows before?

Hmm this seems like something I should so an article and/or video on. What do you think @Charger ? One issue how would I capture stuff done in BIOS/UEFI?
