4690k vs 4790k

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

What about the i5 6500 route? Do you think that is worth to invest in a newer platform,so  I could get a newer cpu on the future?

No, the 6600k overclocked to 4.9GHz wasn't enough in recent tests in Fallout 4 by Digital Founry. Modern games are starting to rely on hyperthreading. My 4790k chews through Fallout 4 at a max of 30% with butter smooth gameplay. If I turn off hyperthreading my fps crash and the stuttering is real.

Basically, I can't decide between these two, the main use of my rig is gaming. However, with the launch of recent titles, I have noticed that the i7 most of the time outperforms the i5. Do you guys think that is worth spending 100 euros more to get the i7?

I have also thought about getting the i5 6500 with a cheap mobo and 8 gb of ddr4, but don't want to take the trouble of installing windows again, since my internet is slow for downloading all the games again

For most people no, for me yes, it really depends on how long you plan to keep your PC as is, I plan on not upgrading for atleast 5 years (in regards to the cpu, gpu depends) so I got a 4790k as it will hold up better for longer.
