So I'm getting ready to do a few upgrades to my gaming pc.  Currently I have the FX8350 black edition,  xfx hd 7970, corsair vengeance on the asus rog crosshair v formula mb(I know its old and I am upgrading it).  I am looking at two option, and that is to keep the 8350 and rebuild around it or do a complete build around the new i7 6700k skylake cpu.  My question is this:  Will the 8350 still be strong enough to run games for a few more years or will the new i5 be a good bang for the buck option?  Also will a GTX 980 have any bottle neck with the 8350?  I know the i7 build will be more future proof and the budget isn't a problem, I just have other hobbies I would also like to put some funds into.  I know getting the GTX 980 will be a bit over kill since I only play at 1080p, I just want to have a really strong gpu that will last for a while.  I ask to keep the Intel vs AMD fight for another thread as I have read plenty of it.  I know the differences and they don't matter to me I just want a quality rig and not have to spend all my hobby funds.

CPU - I5 6600k @4.5ghz, AIO Cooler - H100i GTX, MOBO - MSI Z170 Gaming Pro, RAM - G-Skills Ripjaws V DDR4 2400 mhz, GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080, SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 250g, HDD - WD Black 1TB, PSU - Corsair TX 750, Case - Cooler Master Mastercase Pro 5, Monitor - Dell S2716dg 2560x1440 144hz gsnyc  27", AOC I2757FH 1920x1080 75Hz 27", OS - Windows 10 Home.

Get the i5 4690K, will hold any GPU enough and you won't need new RAM.

The FX-8350 will bottleneck the GPU in cpu intensive games. I would get an intel, unless you want to wait and see what AMD's new Zen will bring.

I'm not waiting till they release to see,  I'll have this built soon.  And the Zen chip will only compete with the i5.
