Hola,

Activated my 6p yesterday and it came with 40% charge. By the time I was done getting updates and activating service it was down to ~25% so I charged it to 100% and left it alone for the night (unplugged the charger once it was full).

From what I read, this phone not only has good battery but also features like Doze to help extend life. But from 100% at around 10PM, I woke up to find it already at 90% at 6:30AM. That sounds to fast to me.

Its 9:50 AM now and my phone is sitting in on my desk and it's at 83%.

Am I just being paranoid or is there something wrong? Tips for better battery life?

  • Phone: Nexus 6p // Graphite // 64 GB // Project Fi // running latest ver. of Marshmallow
  • Brightness set almost complete low
  • Wifi/Bluetooth/Data have all been off since about 8AM
  • Only installed a few apps (banking, twitter, relay, etc.) but according to my battery screen no apps are running in the background to cause drain.
  • Don't have 'battery saver' mode active all the time but have it set to turn on at 15%

1. Relax

2. Use it longer. Impossible to tell from that short amount of time. Give it a couple of days. All kinds of shit updating and stuff.

Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm

good program that gives clear details of what's going on.

Also I highly recommend never turning wi-fi off. Stuff glitches out and updates pile up. In my personal experience wi-fi should be always on. I only turn it off if it's less reliable in some places than my 4G.

Normally I have both data and wi-fi on, doesn't seem to change my battery life.

Oh and in your particular case try to disable google fit as soon as possible. It's so broken it's unbelievable. I think google fit is included in Nexus phones.

Sorry bro, my S6 would literally die by then. Trade phones?

Uhm. What do you do with your phone? S6 lasts a solid day if you know what you are doing. Some people could get two days out of S6.

I don't know bro, I'm planning on taking it to my local ATT to get it checked. I might just restore it myself but the battery is pretty shite.

People install apps that glitch out and drain their battery and don't check what's actually happening. Happens way too often. Some games drain like 20% overnight just because they are awful.

Marshmallow actually got a feature to fix this problem with Doze, but s6 doesn't have marshmallow, yet.

Like I said, I'm paranoid lol. I'm familiar/comfortable with most tech EXCEPT mobile. This phone is literally world's better than my last phone (S3, died with everything off -on- idle in under 3 hours).

I'm used to automatically turning wi-fi and data off when I'm at work or out and about (leave it on at home)  to save battery so I guess I'll leave it on and test it out. I checked the app manager and I couldn't see anything major that would cause drain.

Isn't Doze automatic? I purposely put my phone away from me last night so as not to disturb it but there was still a decent grain. I heard the 6p on standby/doze should only lose about 1-2% overnight.

Yes, it should be automatic.

I recommend trying GSam battery monitor. Who knows what's going on, it makes it very clear.

I'll download it when I get home. Perhaps I overreacted. I was diddling with my phone during lunch and it only dropped ~3% during that time (checking mail, surfing dat imgur, etc.)

Maybe that 10% drop last night was a random occurrence
