I ordered a y700 from ncix because i thought i was savong money. (Im buying from au). I was saving money untill i get a call from fedex today. They slapped me with a $250 customs fine which definitely makes the laptop not worth buying anymore. How do i cancel my order as ncix have already shipped it and i was charged for the money a while ago. If i dont pay the customs fee will they return it to ncox and ncix will return my money or what. I dont want to go through any hassle with credit card companies as my parents are already VERY pissed with me....

I read online many times that ncix never answers if u ask for a cancel of order. I need help

I'm pretty sure FedEx, an International company, has offices in Australia. Just contact your local office. You likely can't call the number that called you because they're not set up that way.

Import fees (not fines) can be part of the process. NCIX likely made some mention of such in the fine print you should have read before placing your order.

Now, on to your issue; I doubt you can cancel an order after it's shipped. It's already out there, with your name on it.

You could return it, however you have to have it in hand to do that, which requires picking it up from FedEx and paying the fee. I believe you'd likely have to pay shipping back to them as well.

You do not get refunded for the customs fees, nor should you; that's your responsibility, not the senders.

The issue is that the lady on the phone with Michigan fedex said that if i sont pay the fee the laptop wont ship wchich leads me to believe that they will send it back to ncix but will ncix refund me.

In the end you are paying 1 way shipping back to it.

"Duty rates in Australia vary from 0% to 10%, with an average duty rate of 4.6%.  Some goods are not subject to duty (e.g. laptops and other electronic products). "

^ IDK but here

So my thought on it would be just pay the tax and deal with it.

I don't think that's quite right. The fees you're stating are usually decided once the item is landed in Australia, not after it's been picked up by FedEx and is awaiting International shipment.

Regardless, you can still call your local FedEx office. All you need is your tracking information, or order number.

He likely didn't get charged "duty", but tax and a brokerage fee.

Did you consider the price of the laptop locally plus tax, or are you only looking at the pretax price vs the landed price of the one you got?

You'll be charged tax on the imported item.

I hate to break it to you, but I don't believe you could return it even if you wanted to.

I think first part talks about items that are ordered when they aren't in stock or have some very special deal. In that case, like it says, no-return would be marked on product page and would also be stated in receipt.

In that case, I'm pretty sure this screws him as well.

NON-DEFECTIVE merchandise returns may be accepted on some items ONLY within 15 days of the Invoice date, at NCIX.com's discretion. All NON-DEFECTIVE returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee. No refunds will be issued for blank media, digital cameras (and accessories), opened software, printers, printer supplies, paper, projectors (and accessories), appliances, handhelds, PDAs, notebook computers, special order computers and special order items.

As you can see, it clearly states no refunds on laptops, just like the other section. He's also subject to the restocking fee, and I think he'd be past the 15 day return period.

So either way he's got to take the laptop for what it's coming in at, or he's losing more money than he needs to.

Take it as a live and learn lesson. Always investigate before you buy.
