Hard to "prevent". Did your computer suddenly power off? How old is the hard drive? If more then say three years, maybe move precious data off and look at replacing it...

I would replace the hard drive/s immediately. If you can get it under warranty then great if not :(

I had two hard drives with bad sectors and got them under warranty. The hard drives can cause the computer to suddenly freeze and you can possibly loose data.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

If you often get bad sectors on your hard drive, it is possibly a sign of drive failure in the near future. If not immediately, attempt to replace the drive as soon as possible. Backup your HDD to a new location (external, NAS, or cloud service).

My PC specifications are in my profile.

Suddenly power off for few times due to the current supplier ==

THe drive now is about 2~3 years old.

What do you mean by previous data off and look at replacing it?

Thanks for advice. I'm going to replace my PSU, HDD and also a brand new casing which now is a solid front, having no good airflow to cool the hard drives.

i didnt read everything in the post, but it depends what you are using it for. as the WD Green spins at 5200 RPM and the Seagate spins at 7200 RPM so the seagate will be faster.

personally i only have WD drives but i will be exploring Seagate with my next drive

just a quick one, are you using Xp?

i remember when i got my first WD Green Advanced format i thought it had bad sectors but Xp just didnt like it because it wasnt advanced formatted

on the harddrive it should say if its advanced formatted if so WD have a align program to do it, but if you formatted on windowns 7 when dont worry about anything i said :P

Precious - as in important data, pics, documents, etc... move that to something else and replace drives...

You can't avoid bad sectors on hard drives... They get them when they age, whether you want it or not. You can make the warning go away by writing to every sector on your drive (e.g. writing the whole drive full with data). When you try to write data to a bad sector, the drive will move that sector to spare area and the warning will be gone.

Make sure that you back up your data, though! Bad sectors are a sign of an aging drive.

So you can keep using the drive for now without any problems, just make sure that any important data on them is backed up just in case.

Get a WD Black or WD Blue instead. Most WD Black drives have 5 year warranty and most Blue's have 2 year warranty. They are very reliable. The only ones I think that are not are there Green series. Seagate are pretty good too but I just get WD because of there warranty.
