I would like to build an office PC for my Dad who would use it for web browsing, MS Word, YouTube etc... I am thinking that intergrated graphics would suffice and I would like it to have an optical drive. The case: Now, the Node 202 or the RVZ01/02 are my preference, I want something small that can stand vertically it needs to fit in tight spaces so this rules cube cases out... My budget is £300, any suggestions appreciated. (Intel Please :P)

Don't want a NUC?

If you absolutely have to have an external drive (not sure why, hardly anything uses it anymore) you could just get a USB powered one.
