Hey!

im on a rampage v extreme, 5820k @ 4.5ghz (be able to oc it to 4.7ghz stable (1.325v) and a single msi 980ti 6g gaming, which is overclocked to 1500/8000mhz (can even run 1550mhz core at 1.275v)

theres a m.2 samsung nvme 950 pro and a 850 pro connected, a sound blaster zxr and 3 140mm fans and a predator 360 coming this week which also cools my gpu then. (pre fill service for gpu block)

i dont plan on adding HDD's or optical drives, im using a NAS for my storage and havent used CD/DVDs in ages.

do you think my corsair 650rm is enough to handle the build when overclocked at 4.7ghz and 1550 on gpu?

im not sure yet if i want to go sli in the future, but i prefer a single gpu. (obviously then the 650 wouldnt be enough)

i thought about buying a AX860 just to be safe and future proof (seeing skylake and therefore upcoming cpu's have way less watt requirements) (ofc still with a single gpu in mind)

but for now, is it enough? or should i just go for the AX860 (which is overkill for a single cpu and gpu but price over here right now is 10,- difference to a AX760...)

650W will be enough for a single card and your CPU even with overclocks maxwell is pretty efficient. If you want to go for SLI get the 850W but if you aren't sure if you want to go SLI wait it up until you can afford a new card and decide.

If the price difference is minimal between the ax750 and ax860 then go for it as power supplies are the most efficient when it's under 50% load

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

i5-4670K @ 4.3Ghz

980Ti @ 1470Mhz
3x 840 EVO SSD

When stressing everything to 100% I only draw 360W as reported by my corsair PSU.

I have a 850W PSU which is complete overkill, but the price difference was so small and I like the SLI headroom + silent operation @ low psu loads.

So yeah you're more than good with 650W !!!

That's no moon, that's a death ball !

That isn't right, that sytem should be drawing anywhere from 400-500W under load, your results would mean that a system with a stock 970 draws more power than yours. When measuring wattages and voltages you will need a electricity usage monitor, never trust some thing like Corsair Link.

yeah seems a little bit low, maybe its a CPU only stresstest. no way it only draws 350 from the wall at full load (cpu and gpu)

I don't know where you're getting your numbers from but all 980ti variants draw anywhere from 250-321W max.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/msi-geforce-gtx-980-ti-lightning-review,9.html

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-980-ti/specifications (stock 980Ti is rated @ 250W)

So 360W seems about right ! And that is with AIDA64 cpu stress test + Unigene Valley running.

105W with just the CPU @ Full Load. System also Idles @ 65-75W.

Also my belkin wall power meter confirms it. Corsair Link is pretty actuate except in certain edge cases, TTL did a video on it on OC3D.

It just seems really low since a system with a factory OC'd 970 consumes a little over 300W. Btw I ment 400-500W not 500-600W.

Yeah it amazes me how much less power systems draw compared to 3-5 years ago. The next GPUs should bring another big jump.

If you have a shitty ASIC card or just add more voltage in the equation then the power draw could also be easily higher. My 980ti does 1470Mhz fine on stock volts, but If I want to push it beyond 1500 the power draw sky-rockets. It's an extreme exponential curve.
