So ive got a 970 HoF and they're pretty rare cards. Now that ive got a 144hz 1440p monitor and I need a extra punch. If I bought another 970 HoF its still £320 and thats a little hard to swallow considering the 390x is literally £10 more and most 970s are lower than £280. Do you think the price of the HoF will go down and when pascal comes out lets say I have £350 to spend on a GPU should I get the pascal equivalent of the 970 or should I get another one or maybe the 980TI HoF will be like 350-400 after last gen price drops.

1

last gen prices dont drop that much. be lucky to see it at $500 new

2

just sell your 970 HOF and get a 980 TI HOF

3

pascal wont be that big of a difference for gaming. it will be like almost every generational leap except maybe a little big more cause of HBM 2.0 at higher resolutions

Is HBM only for the higher end cards or will they use it on the 970 equivalent

I'm willing to bet a 980 Ti successor (1080 Ti possibly) won't come out until late-Q4 2016.

Guess you could try to return the 970 HoF and get a 980 Ti instead? 980 Ti basically performs same as 970 SLI.

Although if you can't return it for full price, selling it would mean you lose quite the cash... So that's a no go.

As to price dropping, it's possible. Assuming NVIDIA rebrands the maxwell lineup and continues mass producing them like what happened to Hawaii chips. Although if they refresh the entire lineup with pascal you'll see maxwell cards slowly phasing out and price not changing much (or even going up)

Example of Hawaii chip where price drop happened cause they were still being produced:

290X launch price: $549, Now: $330
