Kombustor And Furmark

RainfallWithin

Hi tech peeps,

Do Kombustor and Furmark stress graphics cards in the same way? Do they do this by having an extreme number of polygons to render or is it another method. What makes them different from benchmarks such as 3DMark?

They are essentally the same program. I don't recommend using either of them. Use a game, Unigin Heaven or 3DMark to stress test your GPU.

Unigine heaven is the best GPU stress test and WILL crash your overclock

I remember someone telling me that Kombustor is not that great because it only makes your card produce heat not check for stability. Best way to check for stability is playing games.

or the new valley benchmark. And do use it in fullscreen and monitor resolution, cause in window / smaller resolution it won't stress max.

It does stress your card with the fur rendering you see on the screen but and as linus stated once, do not use it because it really can kill your card.

I also use it to test power supplies.

If only for game-stable clocks, Unigine Heaven/Valley is enough. Do try a variety of benchmarks too because I could do 1241MHz all day with my GTX 680 on Heaven/Valley but I always crash 20 minutes into Metro Last Light. Had to downclock to 1228MHz

Recommended benchmarks:

Unigine Heaven and Valley. Bench both.

Metro 2033 / Metro Last Light: Somehow it stresses GPUs differently in a way that I crashed in these games but not on Unigine benchmarks.

Other high end games you could think of e.g. Crysis 1

Thanks for all of the information guys!

What is it about Kombustor and Furmark that stresses the graphics card? Lots of polygons? Very high resolution textures?
