Folding@home Overclocking Help?

Go to solution Solved by That_Random_Guy,

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll see what I can do and how far I can get and I'll post the results after doing a lot of testing :)

I cant stress enough that you keep an eye on temps though. i'd say run everything stock for a day or so just to see what temps you have and where they stabilize, personally i dont run my pc at full tilt folding anymore since my room literately jumps like 20 degrees or more. I just leave my gpu to fold and cpu not folding since cpu only makes like 50-70k a day or something along those lines for my 5820k processor. Not really worth it imo. Your overclocks wont have much of a difference in the points gained though.

Recently, I've been getting into the whole "Folding" thing. I just need some help on how I can overclock what I have already so I can get a higher PPD (because you know, screw you, cancer!).

Here's what I have running the software:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K (running at stock because I have a peasant H81 motherboard)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC Edition

The GPU is (under load) running at:

Core clock: 1434MHz (+80 from stock)

Memory clock: 3004MHz

Voltage: 1177mV

I am getting around 325-330K PPD, but if I can boost that, that would be amazing :)

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

your overclocks will have to depend on your temps. Id say go for it if your temps are fine. If do have low enough temps then i would recommend something like afterburner for overclocking your gpu a bit farther, but only if you have low enough temps and a strong enough psu.

And welcome to the team and the forums

Well no, this isn't exactly true, if I downclock my GPU by 100mhz it will make a significant difference to my points gained and per WU will add up in the whole PPD area. As with any overclocking, heat and stability go hand in hand, if the OP is stress testing correctly then there should be no issues as the heat results gained from testing will help determine if there is a point to it. Agreed on folding with the CPU, mine doesn't get as many points as yours (rightly so) but I can't justify the points either way.
