I just got my replacement phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 5) activated and would like to transfer contacts and most importantly pictures to my new one. The catch is that the LCD screen on my old one is cracked meaning the screen wont display anything and it doesn't even seem to boot up, it just flashes white along the side and top and vibrates once, then repeats. Any ideas on how to get my computer to read the broken phone and transfer my photos (of people that are no longer around)?

Usually repair shops will offer data recovery services to pull off all your contacts and pictures and stuff

I had the phone for about a week, i didnt have time to back anything up

that's not how google contacts work though, it's not a back up, it's the only way to store contacts.

How do they do it though? Im sure someone on here has the knowledge the repair people do

I'm honestly pretty sure they just jam a USB in it and pray, but if that doesn't work I think it *could* get sent to some type of Data Recovery Specialist with degrees and shit that can recover lost data. If it's just the screen cracked you should be able to plug it in but if it's broken (smashed) then you might be out of luck. Does it have a SD card you can pull out?

Usually phones can plug into HDMI things, like my nexus 5 and nexus 7. As long as the touch still responds, you should be able to see what is on screen using the appropriate HDMI interface

I do like that idea, but doesn't usually the touch break before the screen completely breaks?

Some devices the touch breaks as soon as there is a single goddamn crack (like the nexus 7) but I have found iphones run over on the street that still respond to touch despite having a powderized screen

If the phone is on shouldn't the computer still be able to transfer the data?
