Using a Dell Windows Reinstallation Disc From a Different System on a Different System

Appleboy45

I am getting this old Dell Dimension 8200. There is no hard drive as it did go bad so I do plan to replace it. The person lost the reinstallation software. The computer original came with Windows XP Home Edition. Can I use a version of Windows XP Home Edition that was distributed from Dell but from a different system to reinstall Windows and be able to use the product key that came with the system I am installing Windows on.

It might install Dell bloatware and some drivers on there which you don't need. I wouldn't recommend it.

If its just CD with basic branding and not like restore CD etc. then yes. XP and Vista allow even OEM keys to use on different systems. Though I wouldn't recommend using XP at all for any PC connected to internet.
