Skype Alternatives?

Hi guys!

So i was watching the WAN Show yesterday. Linus talked about never using Skype again. So what is an alternative? Mainstream alternative please... keep in mind that this has to be user-friendly enough for my mom... cuz I have to install this for my parents so I can vid chat them.

Could these alternatives have better audio/video quality?

Razer Comms I guess. It's hard to make friends switch. Linus hates it because you can get peoples IP's and DDoS him which doesn't happen to the average person.

It's not just the DDoS part that I am concerned with. I doubt that DDoS will be the worse of potential security risks. Microsoft did give Skype some improvement but they're clearly unaware of the security risks. In the meantime, I have to find something more secure that I can use for web conference.... keep in mind guys, my parents have to be able to use this with ease, Team Speak ain't gonna cut it...

ooVoo is an option. It's really only good for video though, audio quality was horrible the last time I tried it.

in your case just use something like facebook or google hangouts. everything else may be too complicated. honestly unless you parents have important business on you computers u can stay with skype.

Id either use Google Hangouts or just setup a TS3 server. I personally have a TS3 server setup for me and my friends to use whenever we need.

 

Its a real life-saver because my school wont allow facebook or google chat or anything, so we just use TS3 from our laptops and its great.
