i was running a amd 955 before on my ASRock 960GM/U3S3 and recently switched it out for a 6300. but it occasionally throttles to 1.4ghz at load even when im running it at stock clocks. i updated bios, reset, then used prime95 and checked clocks. they fluctuated around 3000-3500 then when down to 1400 every few minutes/seconds. what is happening?

Wow man that wasnt an upgrade, that was a sidegrade. You traded 3 FPUs for 2 ALUs xD

Should've kept Phenom II x4 955, great CPU!

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

CPU: Phenom II x6 1045t ][ GPU: GeForce 9600GT 512mb DDR3 ][ Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ][ RAM: 2x4GB Kingston 1333MHz CL9 DDR3 ][ HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB ][ PSU: Chieftec 500AB A ][ Case: No-name without airflow or dust filters Budget saved for an upgrade so far: 2400PLN (600€) - Initial 2800PLN (700€) Upgraded already: CPU

http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

So, according to this database, your mobo should've been avoided at all cost. Too weak VRM (power section) to handle AMD CPUs.

Throttling happens generally when you have AMAZINGLY high temperatures on CPU. But that probably isn't the case (what are your CPU temperatures anyway? Use HWMonitor or HWInfo to read them and report here).

Your mobo actually has so weak VRM that Asrock moved their asses to include throttling the CPU mechanism when VRM is getting too hot. Terrible mobo. You probably are trying to draw too much power through that weak VRM and your mobo is throttling the CPU down to get lower heat output.

First, try turning off TURBO mode of your CPU in your BIOS. Just turn off the Turbo and see if you still get throttling.

If that doesnt work, try slightly undervolting the CPU. Go with small -offsets on the Voltage and get a bit lower voltage (small increments) at a time, test if still throttling.

If you get too low voltage CPU will not be stable so remember to run Prime95 for some time each time you take voltage lower until either you aren't stable anymore OR until you stop throttling under load.

You can also try manually underclocking the FX to something like 3,2-3,4GHz at this point to get stable on lower voltage.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

No the 6300 poops all over the x4

There is a power saver setting in your bios that might be turned on.

If it's turned on it will throttle your cpu.

If thats not the case, it's doing it because it's getting too hot.

Once it hits about 55C it throttles down to about 1.5Ghz so the cpu can cool off.

Mine does this when running prime 95, Not sure if there is a fix or not.

My Rig: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.5 Ghz, Corsair H100i, Gigabyte gtx 770 4gb, 8 gb Patriot Viper 2133 mhz, Corsair C70 (Black), EVGA Supernova 750g Modular PSU, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, Asus next gen wifi card.

You could theoretically try to purchase radiators exclusively for your motherboard VRM (because Asrock didn't implement any on this board which makes the VRM even worse), but I assume that you don't want to spend more money just to get this mobo working.

This, but do not worry too much, at least you are "up to date" if i can say that? AM3 is as old as my grandma almost xD
