Soo I installed a new motherboard on my pc that had been running g windows 10 for month only to find out its not longer activated after speaking to muppets at ms and them saying I need my windows 7 key which I don't have due to being given the pc with windows 7 on it they told me I need to buy windows 10 even though they could see I had been running an activated legit version for months!

So I've reinstalled windows 7 and used my partners product key...

Windows update is being a nightmare and not working properly...

Can I just installed the 2 or 3 prerequisite updates that is needed for windows 10 to start downloading? I'm at my wit's end with this now :(

I feel your pain, I installed Win7 to Upgrade to Win10 on my new pc, so yeah.

Windows Update is pain, so what I'd recommend you is to download an update pack, which will get you somewhat close to up-to-date. You'll still need to get some updates through Windows Update though, since the update packs aren't released frequently and not 100% up-to-date.

They still save you a lot of time.

Google is your friend, also search for "Force Windoes 10 Update.

I hope this helps.

I've tried the force windows 10 update process and still nothing...

I've managed to get the windows 10 setup running and selected upgrade this pc. It goes through downloading windows 10 and then verifies my download fine....

But gets stuck on getting updates and just sits there doing nothing :(

Any advice or where can I get these windows 7 update packs from?

That doesn't sounds so bad at all, since did the setup and download. But if I remember correctly, the updates it downloads are for Win10, so just let it do whatever it's doing.

It took at least half an hour for me to show any sign of progress. Just try to be patient.

Yes! I left it running over night and woke up this morning to ready to install windows 10.....

All I need to do now is wait for it to install wait for it to activate my pc then download the 64bit version as the only windows 7 disc I had was 32bit :(

My system is 64bit but you have to upgrade to the version of windows 10 that matches windows 7 so once 10 is installed and gives you're pc a digital license you can then upgrade to the same edition but 64bit

Right in theory that should work, upgrade to 10 32bit, activate, download 10 64bit, fresh install it... It should activate, Windows doesn't seem to discriminate between 32 and 64 activations in my past experiences

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

just so you know..you made this alot harder then you had to

all you had to do was install windows 7 with sp1...activate it..then use the windows 10 tool to upgrade...no need to use windows update

and as for the windows 10 thing

all you had to tell ms was that your motherboard died so you bought a new one..and needed a new key..they would have activated it..Ive done this like 4 times already

Download the Windows ISO you need from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/home

If you download Windows 7, it will include SP1, and probably be updated to pretty recent.
