Question about RAM usage?

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

your system processes use ram

those are not included in user processes

Hey!

First of all, here are my system specs:

Asus Z87-K EVGA

GeForce GTX970

Intel i5-4670K 3.40GHz

Kingston 8GB DDR3 RAM

Samsung 850 EVO 240Gb

SSD Windows 8.1 64bit

Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD

Seasonic S12 II 520W BRONZE

Now to the actual question:

In task manager, my idle RAM usage jumps around 50%-60%. Now I run quite a few background programs and use I use chrome so I didn't think too much about it, but I noticed something today. In the processes tab, RAM usage shows about 50%, but the total Mb of the running programs is about 2000Mb? In the Users tab, it also shows 50%, but the number bellow is around 2000Mb? whats that about? Shouldn't my RAM usage be around 25%?

Thanks, I have added few pictures to explain myself better. My task Manager is in Finnish, but it should be pretty clear what I meant  :D

Some processes aren't going to show up there. That's why in one tab it shows the full 4.5 GB being used but only 2.2 of that is viewable processes.

Go with the info in the Performance tab for the most accurate.

If you are really scared about RAM used Firefox instead of Chrome.

but that will mean less idle ram, even with the "run in background unchecked" chrome still has one processe alive.

Chrome also uses profetching and a few other hacks that gobble up ram to make it self faster.

yeah but lets do not forget that chrome does not need extensions so much as firefox that makes it more first user approach more friendly (atleast i think so ) and i am not a fan of instaling flash on my pc directly becasue it can be worse than chrome living proccess :P
