Intel Core i5-6500(3.20ghz base) or fx 8320 for video edting?

which cpu to go for? 8 cores or 4 cores?

FX 8320 should be okay for video editing, honestly it should perform good on either but render times might be different.

i5 4590 @ Stock, XFX R9 290!, HyperX Beast 4x8GB  @1600, 850 EVO 120gb, WD Caviar Blue 1TB, , Asrock H97m Pro 4 , Fractal Design Define R4, Windows 10

Depending on what program you use. Search google for that program intel vs amd. Its honestly a toss up when it comes to video editing.

Not really. In heavily multi-threaded apps the 8320 is better by a whooping 20%

Heavy use of multiple cores/threads. Even though core for core the FX is about 40% weaker, when you double the amount of cores over an i5 it comes out ahead.

Depending on the app .Like I said.   But if anything the best choice would be an i7 or xeon in this case.

Exactly. It makes good use of all the way up to 36 cores and 72 threads

the xeon 1231 v3 or the 1230 v3 would be the best choice

grab whatever is cheaper.

If you go for the fx, grab the fx 8320E

The site has changed....

they would be about the same exporting and importing, but overall performance would still go to intel. when you video edit you don't export 24/7.

I can bet good money Intel would be much better at scrubbing through raw footage.

if it were an i7 yes but i5 no. It's not THAT big of a difference really.

Rendering definitely makes use of all those cores.

That and the usual stuff about intel not being like trying to cool a slab of lava.

I have no problems keeping my FX8350 cool. While gaming it's about 48c° warm.

it was a joke, i used to run an A8-6600K and i loved the little thing, i could run it passive on a 92mm sink as long as i didn't do anything stupid on it (like P95)

Yeah P95 needs the cooler :D Well I have both an I7 and the FX8350 and I love them equally. They are atleast as fast in gaming (newer gen) in my opinion.

fair enough, but let's not derail thread

OP take the AMD one. A lot cheaper and you will not regret it. ;)

If your budget doesn't allow for an Intel i7 then the FX is a pretty good bet. I have found that the 8320 performs well in gaming and rendering times are very good for the price.

If you do get the FX then I suggest you invest in a good motherboard and cooler and make sure to overclock it. That's where most of the value comes from in the FX CPUs.

Take a look at this UserBenchmark page:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-6500-vs-AMD-FX-8320/3513vs1983

Best of luck with whatever you choose :)

thanks guys .. i appreciate your help.. there are some confusions here because of me not giving that much details. sorry for that.

well 1st i cant afford Xeons. thanks for suggesting though.

and secondly fast rendering is required.   and i wont render 24/7 of course :D

and lets say im rendering a 5 minute 4k in adobe premiere. it would be helpful if a approximated time can be suggested in terms of both the CPUs..

it would give me a clearer view... thanks again.
