Word of advice: don't take any of the builds that will be posted here that take up more than $2k seriously.

This is my "I won the lottery but I am not a dumbass but I also want to treat myself" build. Only things I'd recommend from here is more RAM if necessary, as well as more Storage / potential RAID configurations.

swap that to a Z170 OC Formula

Currently the best board for all around overclocking and has all the bells and whistles. edit: @Kloaked arised a good point, you probably should go with the X61 Kraken, its an all around better cooler, you should also consider thermal compound on that too. 1kw will be more then enough

Criticism: you say that, but you put a $400 motherboard, an overpowered power supply, yet you didn't put on a 1TB SSD or a better AIO.

Criticism: you say that, but you put a $400 motherboard, an overpowered power supply, yet you didn't put on a 1TB SSD or a better AIO.

  1. The Power Supply chosen was because of the 2-way SLi for the 980TIs.
  2. A 1TB SSD is absolutely unnecessary for all but server usage. Unless you plan to turn them into game drives, an SSD of 500GB will hold any and all programs you could ever install.
  3. The storage was left to be flexible, as even the most basic of PC enthusiasts can handle their storage themselves. Does he want to do a 3TB RAID1 with WD Blacks? Then put that on here. Unlike the hardware, wherein "Better = better," storage is a lot more subjective, and there's no point investing in storage you will simply never use.
  4. The benefits of a better AiO at this point are negligible, unless you go all-in and invest in a custom loop.

Get this, a really nice laptop (Like the XPS 13/12, or Lenovo X1/X250) and a new gaming chair, and you'll be set.

There. A revised, includes-everything part list. Pay attention to the item or two that do not have prices on them. The two WD Blacks are to be used in a RAID 1 (or RAID 0 if you REALLY wanted to) configuration.

i understand people will kill me for this build but crossfire scales better than sli. when  the original fury x released, crossfire them vs 980 ti sli was just about apar. but new drivers will be bound to have them pull ahead. plus i included nanos cause they are cheaper. a system of this price needs a custom water cooling loop. give me a minute to write one up after the posted build

X99 is meaningless for most people. In games, a 6700k or 4790k is going to outperform a 5820k, 5930k, or 5960x due to their poor single-core performance in comparison to Intel's 4-core chips.

Instead of complaining about everyone else's suggestion, here's mine.

I kept in mind that you wanted to go somewhat all out, but not go completely overboard like some other people are suggesting.

Edit: I didn't put a keyboard or whatever because I think those need to be talked about outside of your actual build. Those peripherals are very subjective to each user, which is why I'm not going to suggest something outright until I know your tastes on keyboards, audio, etc.
