Thank YOU so much for this.  Now the head swelling can go down now that the head V wall battle has stopped.  I have been trying to get the software to install since yesterday.  Now my old PC sits with nothing to do after I just rebuilt it.  It's not like I can just sell it these days.

Though since my Ubuntu was a clean install with no data is there a version of Ubuntu of some other free OS that will work with F@H?

Ubuntu 18 (Bionic Beaver) will work with FAHControl - see the much newer Linux Howto linked in my Sig.

In order to get FAHControl to work you need to add some Python2 compatibility packages as out-lined there. They will work with Ubuntu 18 but now with the newer Ubuntu 19

Thanks for the tip.  I have downgraded from 19 to 18 and got F@H running.  Only problem is now I've found out my RX 580 gpu was not installed.  I've tried installing the divers via script but I'm too much of a ubuntu noob to figure it out.

@Metallus97 might be able to help with the AMD drivers

Hi all. I managed to get it to work on my FreeNAS. I made a new jail (remember to select  allow_mount_procfs, mount_procfs and mount_linprocfs) and then I pretty much just followed this guide: https://github.com/mrclksr/fah-installer

Edit /root/.fah/config.xml to your liking.

Should work on most BSD systems.

Took me a good 4-5 hours fiddling around with it though, so maybe this will save someone time :)

/Mikkel

@Zeldatrek as of today I am only able to provide help for  Arch based distros. Have not been able to get the GPU going on anything Debian based...

does anyone else have problem with GPU folding on ubuntu newer than 18.04 and with a AMD gpu(specifically rx480)?

it seams like FAH needs opencl. but the specific version of opencl that is required is only available in the amd-gpu-pro driver directely from AMD. but they have Hardcoded the dependency on Ubuntu 18.04.

I have tried to run mesa  from the kisak/kisak-mesa ppa but that just leads to a "Bad platformId size." error.

anyone a idea how to fix it?

otherwise i am stuck with using a gt470 and my ryzen CPU.

Nope we are pretty much in the same boat.  My RX580 also failed to properly install on 18.04 and newer.  Plus when I downgraded I couldn't click get updates so so it gave me the generic windows driver.  And had not gotten the available drivers installed either.

There's a hint on my thread at FoldingForm about getting my new 5700XTs working on Ubuntu 18.04 about installing the drivers in 19 & 20
