So i am building my own computer.  I was going to go with a z97 motherboard but i could not find any new motherboards that i liked.  So i returned the ram, cpu and motherboard.  I am now going to go with the intel i7 6700k cpu but for the motherboard i am torn between the Asus ROG Maximus VIII Extreme and the Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero Alpha.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't go with the z170 chipset as people are reporting problems with it.

Why such an expensive motherboard?

Can you tell the budget? I'll see if I can do a better build.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

I want to go with a asus rog motherboard.

Like can you tell me any reason? I'll try to tell you if it's worth the bucks.

There are great cheap motherboards that does the same job as Maximus VIII series.

x99 does not support the i7 6700k cpu.  that is why i am going with the z170 motherboard.

I know that. I'm saying there are a lot of reported problems with CPUs bending and the motherboards not working. So why go with a skylake when it's not safe?

What cpu would you recommend then from the x99 side because the 4th and 5th gen cpu for the z97 motherboards you can't get any new motherboards from anywhere.

Best motherboard? Down to opinion only, MSI make good ones, so do Gigabyte. Asus tend to have a higher build quality but personally I think MSI looks better. And for editing videos, live streaming, recording etc etc etc. The X99A platform does it way better than skylake will.

CPU - I7 5820K or if you want to spend more (unlikely) the 5960X. Personally I use 5820K, it's amazing.

Motherboard - I use MSI Gaming 7 as it looks great and has all the features I want.

This has nothing to do with this Maximus board.

Asus is best. But there are cheaper and great for money motherboards out there.

Cut the prices on the motherboard, focus selecting on good components like selecting CPU, GPU, SSD, RAM etc.

Do you have PCPP link for your build?

I think you're looking at some reviews and thinking "Wow the Asus deluxe sounds amazing! I want it because it has all these features that I will probably never use." To be honest you're paying an extra amount of money just for the brand name of Asus. Like the guy above me said, you could totally spend the money you're saving here anad put it into other components e.g. CPU GPU RAM HDD/SSD

If you think you can find a better motherboard please send me a updated pc parts picker list.

Updated motherboard? Sure you don't want more? I mean we could rebuild this entirely specified for Gaming and Live streaming, recording etc.

Motherboard 1 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z170agamingm7

Motherboard 2 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z170a

Those'll do fine

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tmkqGX - Probably not the best, but I gave you headroom for more. Believe me, 2 4TB HDDs is not needed, I don't know what you expect to store on them but if you find yourself running out of space 5 years down the line, pick another one up. Because right now, 1TB SSD and 4TB HDD is more than you'll need. Ever. I also put in an optical drive in case of Windows needing a disk and you not having one. Better to have it and not need it, furthermore you can change the case to whatever you want.

If you want 32GB RAM lemme know. I'll get something, don't you go doing it.
