Hi.

Im looking to build a brand new system in about a month, and im looking for some input on the PC parts.

Currently im looking at:

Inside:

i7 6700K

ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO

HyperX Fury 2400MHz 16GB DDR4

Corsair HX750i, 750W PSU

GTX 970 Singel and maybe go for SLI at some point, or invest in a 980 straight away.

Case:

Fractal Design R5

Im looking for a silent case with no need for bling or windows or anything, just want performance and some silence.

Cooling:

2x 140mm Corsair AF Quiet Ed in front

1x 140mm Corsair AF Quiet Ed in the back

Corsair H110i / Noctua NH-U12S (Maybe another model)

From what i can read people are very happy with straight air cooling, but i do want to overclock the CPU and GPU so im not sure. Thinking that the GPU cooling will be better with the AF fans + noctua CPU cooler due to water cooled CPU taking up fan slots and i do not want to open up the top vents because i want to have a silent rig.

Im torn on the CPU cooling and the Graphics card. Im looking for a build at max 2.000-2.800 USD and i will be playing at 1080p with 144hz panel. The games i will play in the beginning will be csgo/bf4/ARK, but will go into Overwatch and then Star Citizen when that comes out in beta. Im a oldschool cs gamer, so i want "ok" graphics with high FPS, meaning i dont need everything on ULTRA but Medium is not good enough either. Since i will be going into heavier games like Star Citizen with this rig i dont know if i should spend the money now for a 980/980ti or just wait for the games and then upgrade to 970 SLI. I plan to overclock the 970 a bit also along with the 6700K.

The reason im not looking into AMD at this point is that i had some real let down with it, and the higher end CPU`s run 8 cores which almost no game is optimized for.

I have the money to really invest in a good system but i dont want to have a insane PC which i dont use fully either, so that`s why im looking to maybe just go for 970 at this point and then go SLI later if needed. ( I WILL NOT PLAY 4k )

So good performance at 1080p high settings high fps, silent case and good enough cooling for some moderate fun overclocking.

Any inputs?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards

Stian

If you can go for a 980, go for it but if you're staying single GPU go R9 390, it performs better than a GTX 970 and everyone agrees with you, AMD CPUs are kinda bad at the moment...

A little GPU question to add:

If i go 970 with a 4GB VRAM(3.5 or whatever) and then upgrade to SLI, will i still only have 4GB VRAM or how does that work in SLI?

I will look into the 390 for sure, thank you for the suggestion.

you will have 3.5

VRAM doesn't stack up...yet.

One thing I want to bring up (don't have time atm to make a build list) is you should look into a different case if you're going to get the Define R5. It is a beautiful case and all, but in my opinion only good if you're going to get an air cooler, or a single rad. For mounting a rad on the top of it you have to remove those little covers it has, and the thing has no dust filters at all, and looks ugly as shit without any covering at all, especially if you have any rads mounted, looking pretty unprofessional

I would get faster speed DDR4. 2400 Mhz is entry.

Your Mobo support 3600+.

I would get 3000 or 3200. Doesn't cost that much more. Maybe $20. Worth it IMO.

Thank you. As you might understand, im a total noob :) The techical specs of the CPU states: "Memory Types: DDR3L 1600/DDR4 2133"

Does that mean the minimum is 2133?

Thanks again

I would get the Define S over the R5, unless you plan on using more than 3 HDDs

I personally own both case, the S for my gaming rig and the R5 for home server.

Very good quality cases for the price.

Ok.

I will be running 2x SSD`s Max, so no need for more disk support.

Define S looks good but is it not for water cooled builds mostly? Guess i need to watch some more reviews :)

As im tipping towards air cooled CPU i was looking at the R5.

I use the Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler in the define S.

It's a great case for water cooling but you can use it air only if you want to.

R5 and S comes with two 140mm fans if you didn't know.

Model: GP-14

Specs here: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/casefans/dynamic-series/dynamic-gp-14

yeah i know, just something with included fans that scream "not good enough" :P I see they have them at the site im ordering from so i will try them as the speccs was good enough for me.
