If you don't already have the 970 an R9 390 is a better GPU for the money.

Hyperthreading is starting to be nice in games. i7 if you have the money for it. What post #2 said if you don't.

Why though? Skylake increases the prices by far too much just for an unlocked multiplier.

OP obviously doesn't want to overclock

@OP If you are only gaming then the i5 is all you need. Let's you spend more on your GPU

It's less than the 6700. I mean, I'd go 4690K over any Skylake CPU, bar the 6700K.

Yeah, it's cheaper, but I'd be able to make a better recommendation if I knew the OP's budget for the full system.

So what would you choose for gaming i5 6500 or i7 non skylake? Hmm

i5 6500 (or 6600, it's cheaper I guess) is enough for gaming.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.
