Buy or build NAS?

Go to solution Solved by Altecice,

If you're running a MC server (or plan to) make sure you have a lot of RAM just for that purpose. I was hosting my friends one for a few days while he was doing a server migration and with the 170 mods he had running it was using ~4Gb of RAM and a fair bit of my Xeon's CPU.

Hey,

I dont know whats best, build or buy a NAS?

If buying is better, Id like to have a synology nas cause i may run a minecraft developer server on there, and heard that synology supports that.

Preferably a 4 bay.

Budget for buying: 350 euro ~ 380 US dollars, case itself. Im gonna buy the harddrives with my own money

Which NAS should I go for, if buying?

If building, I have an old pc case (prolly gonna buy a mATX one if building, a PSU, a cpu (pentium), 2 gigs of ddr2/ddr3 (not sure cause I cant enter the pc), a mobo ATX (prolly gonna buy a new mATX, if I do happen to build one), and thats about it.

Thanks, hope you can help!

So building one would be better then. So basically to recap, you're saying it'd be best to include a NAS into a powerful server pretty much?

Thanks
