Additionally you can use a lens mount adapter and use wide angle lenses from Sigma, Canon, Nikon.  And if you use a Metabones Speedbooster adapter with a corrective optical element you can virtually get the same FOV of a lens mounted on a 35mm camera.

Hello,

So I have though of buying a second lens to my camera (Sony A5000). I would like to get a wide angle one because I enjoy landscape photographing, but I'm having trouble knowing what one to get. One of the main problems is I don't have that big budget so is it even worht getting a "cheaper" wide angle or should I just save up for a more expensive one. One other problem is I have the A5000 which have a smaller APS-C sensor which means I need a quite wide lens to get the "Wide angle" of a 35mm full-frame. My lens now goes to 16mm which is decent but I loove the distortion and the super wide of the really wide lenses. I know these are hard to use but I would like to learn it and get beautiful effect.

So really what options are it?

I've read about Wide angle adaptors, are they any good? Maybe to get a first feel of it?

And I have one adapter for Nikon F mount lenses so I can use Nikon lenses (But those are so expensive..,have a old 50mm f1.8 and a 100mm f2.8 which I rarley use)

Can you correct the Fisheye effect in post IF you sometime would not want the distorted effect? Or are you stuck with a distortion if you use a fisheye.

Yes:

  • It can be automatically done if there is a camera + lens combination profile in Lightroom, Photoshop, DxO Optics Pro or another photo editor
  • OR you can do it manually

Of course, when you correct a fish eye distortion you will lose some of the areas around the edge of the frame.

NOTE:

There is no literature that states that a wide angle lens is a must for landscape photography.  Many photographers use longer focal lengths, including focal lengths above 200mm.

Okey thanks for the response. I know a wide angle isn't a must but I really like the effect and I have a 100mm which I can use (been used) for that.

Whats your budget? Also, is autofocus needed? because there are some good manual focus options like the samyang/rokinon 10mm f2.8.

Well really not above 300 euro which I know can be a problem since camera gear is expensive. And if I can save money its good to, but that is well not excpected.

And its fine with manual focus.

The two links I posted, the first is to a Sony E-mount lens while the second link gives you a list of E-mount lens from various brands.  Look at the ones that fall within your budget.

Using a wide angle lens for landscape photography, 99% of the time you're focusing on things that are going to be always within the infinity focusing distance of the lens, so MF is not a big deal.

Yea I checked out the E mount lenses and the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 or the Samyang 12mm f/2.0 which both look interesting.
