Get an APU, Intel isn't really the choice for a a HTPC. You don't need a graphics card either.

Don't need that kind of RAM. 4GB of 1600MHZ is enough

For an HTPC I would want quietness, so probably a GPU with dual fans. Other than that everything looks good.

Significantly less graphics power. An APU is just better for the cost.

I'd still pop in a little more RAM myself, since the APU takes a couple gigs of it, but I guess I could be wrong about anything needing more than 1 something gigs of ram.

I can see a computer even doing light gaming needing more than a gig an half of am or a little more. I still think having the 8 gigs would set him a lot better off myself, but I guess you are the trusted advisor.     ( I just thought that was all, like I said I guess I could be wrong )
