My google chrome downloads things at painfully slow speed, and it doesn't use my internet all the way. I get about 12mbs download speed and about 3mbs upload speed. However whenever I'm downloading something it's extremely slow. For example, I'm downloading a 20mb file and it's taken 7 minutes, going at 50kbs. however, I just updated a 300mb steam game that took 10 minutes at 1.5mbs. 

 

This isn't a huge issue, but an annoyance. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Is it everything? It could be that the server of the thing you downloaded is just slow.

 

Try running speedtest on chrome and IE and compare.

You need to narrow it down further, rather than blame Chrome instantly.

 

Try downloading the same file at roughly the same time of day using internet explorer or Edge. This will discern whether or not it's your browser.

Things it could be:

• Router throttling certain connections
• Browser
• ISP throttling
• Server at the other end is busy

If you want dig deeper, use netlimiter to find out bandwidth per process is using on your computer. That is to assume you're using Windows and nothing else in your network is using up bandwidth (other PCs, phones, etc). Cross reference it to what you are getting on Google Chrome's task manager during downloading things on chrome, doing speed test, downloading steam games, etc.
