BIG BOY (build finished)

Najuno

Hello there,

thank you for checking out my topic about my latest update of my main PC. I have been working this machine with my Corsair 900D case, since it was build in April 2015. At the time I built it, it was just meant for pure performance and OCing. Of course I always make sure, that when I´m just building for performance, it also looks okay, but looks were just a second thought. Now I´m reworking this machine to make it a lot more beautiful and pretty, and I really wanted to go back to hard tubing and other nice features. My hardware in this PC is used for rendering, compressing, editing, benchmarking and gaming of course. I have been working with custom watercooling for a very long time already and so I have all the necessary experience to make this something special.

I will update this thread, as I´m advancing in the progress of reworking the computer, with pictures and probably also a VLOG with some building guides if I find the time to do so. I´ve never had too many specific names for my PCs, so I just called it the Big Boy since the 900D is such a massive case. Unfortunately the 900D saw already 4 or 5 builds and so all the modding and working on and with it left their marks, so it became time for something new :).

You can leave me a comment about your thoughts and/or subscribe to the topic that you´ll stay updated whenever I have something new to post :).

Don't drop your CPU down the stairs... :P

Nice collection of parts and lovely case c: (it even has an attic).

Knock on wood that this one lives longer than the first 5960X I´ve had hehe ;).

@Najuno Whats the table you have for your 900D?

That is just two black coffee tables from Walmart put together hehe. I´ve been looking around for a good height because the 900D was so tall. I´m not sure this still works with the 600C.

I'm loving the green and black color scheme, I'll never get tired of seeing them if they are done right.

Are you going to be using har line tubing, anyways nice rig and another day for me to complain about not having a pc :(

Yes this time I´ll be going back to hard tubing. I will use EK HD PETG 12/16mm. There are more pictures about to come soon :).

Those are going to be some large radius bends with that tubing bit it should fill in the space nicely ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Well that´s true but I don´t have a radiator in the case, so I´ve got plenty of space hehe.

UPDATE #1

Alright here is some little update. Took the nVidia SLI bridge apart that I could paint it yellow since the original color was a bit boring and not a good fit.

My thought on going from the 900D to the 600C is why waste such a badass case that can last for an incredibly long time because you can do so much in the 900D. I personally own one for my first build that will definitely come around the summer after my next semester.

My 900D was a good buy and a good choice, but if you read my initial post you´ll find out that I´ve had 4 or 5 builds in there, it´s just wear and tear. I don´t keep my hardware very long usually with every new gen I build a new PC. And it was just time for new ideas.

And even though a 900D is a nice case it is far from being perfect.

Oh okay that makes sense. If you're going for high-end hardware like the highest-end Asus ROG motherboards like the Rampage V Extreme or the Maximus VIII Extreme, Titan X's, 980 Ti's, Titan, and Titan Blacks, I would much rather squeeze as much life out of those as I can with or without overclocking (preferably with overclocking) rather than upgrade them on an annual basis. You will be able to get maximum return if you do that because personally I would. That doesn't mean don't go for those types of components. I'm all for enthusiast builds and I am a PC enthusiast. Don't get me wrong on that one. My first system for the tower alone is budgeted out at USD ~$3,200 for my gaming and college needs. I do computer animation and modeling and I'm going to do Photoshop this coming semester.

I thought about it, but I was afraid it would make the build in the comparable small case too bulky because all you´d see then is a big covered up surface, I didn´t like that idea. So instead of cooling RAM, what makes little to no sense I decided to go for the fullcover THOR because cooling the VRM is a good thing, when you don´t have a fan in the case :).

Hmm. You should have bought a SOC Champion instead. Why did you pick the AsRock?

Hmm. You should have bought a SOC Champion instead. Why did you pick the AsRock?

Because the SoC Champion wasn´t available at that time, and I´ve read too many bad things about it, it seems there are lots of people having issues with their RAM banks and compatibility. I´ve ditched an Asus X99 Deluxe and a Rampage V Extreme before the AS Rock OC Formula due to the crappy state both boards were in. I kept the X99 Deluxe because after many UEFI updates it was stable enough to fit a 5820K and mild OCs, but it crashed all the time with XMP settings and the R5E was even worse, that had not only these issues but also failing USB ports, it was a nightmare. I thought in the first place that it was the IMC of my CPU but I´ve tested a 5930K and a 5960X with it and both of these CPUs worked perfect on the AS Rock OC Formula.

The funny or scary part is, that I need less Voltage for the same OCs with the AS Rock board. Asus can go to hell with their X99 boards... I´m beyond disappointed TBH. As you can understand after such a hassle all you want is a nice stable and good mainboard.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

Honestly if that would break right now I´d not even bother to RMA it. I´d open the trash can and there it goes then and order something hassle free. Now don´t get me wrong I have no idea how good or bad Asus is in Z170 chipsets, but X99 was a disaster.

Not just X99, but ASUS have gone downhill recently. After Z77 mainly

That´s very sad, I´ve held loyalty to Asus for so many years, you just couldn´t do anything wrong by buying it...
