So I have decided to upgrade my memory to hopefully improve my performance in GTA 5. I currently have 2 options that I am stuck between. Option 1 is buy Kingston HyperX Fury 4gb ddr3 1866MHz for $40CAD. Option 2 is that I buy a 8gb stick of the same memory in my PC for $80 and have 12gb of memory which may be overkill. Which option would you chose? Any help is appreciated.

Ram speed has big impact on Fallout 4.

 

1600MHz: 36.0/54.6 FPS

2133MHz: 39.0/61.0 FPS

2400MHz: 44.0/66.9 FPS

If it was in strict reference to Skylake, where there are multiple reports of DDR4 RAM speed making some difference over 2400MHz, sure. An 860K is not that platform.

2133mhz ram does help with haswell.

when i got 2400mhz ram fps improved.. far cry 4 gained 10 fps

FFS. OP has not mentioned any game they are playing, nor are they on any modern platform. X4 860K on FM2+ is going to max around 2400MHz best case.

 

If you all are suggesting that upgrading RAM is going to give the best outcome compared to swapping out an R9 270, I give up.

I think in this case since OP is running only 4GB right now an extra stick to bump up to 8GB would actually smooth things out a lot. When you take into account Windows processes, Steam, UPlay, etc etc 4GB doesn't do shit all.
