Worth it to upgrade?

Clanscorpia

My grandpa gave me an old HP p6745f and I was wondering if I should upgrade it or if it would not be worth it and I should just get a new PC. Thanks!

Only if he needs it. Would be useless for him to spend money on something he does not need

That site has all the information on the hardware currently in your PC. I don't know your budget or ideal specs. The socket and power supply, as well as the RAM acceptance and GPU acceptance for the motherboard are all listed for you there.

Now that I know your budget, it's definitely possible to upgrade this computer, but you'll likely never get past "okay". The socket is older, and if you're going to buy a new motherboard to accomodate a newer socket and faster RAM, you might as well just pick up a new case and PSU while you're at it. $800 CAD can get you a decent rig, you won't be running GTA V on Ultra at 4K, but you will definitely be able to game.

I will try to whip something up for you in the next 24 hours or so.

I already have a plan for under $800 CAD way above my needs with a 950 (Dont want to go lower) and 4460 but if you can make better that would be great

If the purpose of that computer is to play games than you will most likely want to consider building something and salvaging the HDD or something.

I'd try to salvage the HDD to save some money first. Here's my build recommendation:

That GPU is way overkill for me, I don't AAA game  so even a 950 is overkill,

I'm just planning on getting it just in case I do start playing them. And this list has tons of parts I dont want. For 800 I'd like my build to look semi nice

The price gap between the 950 and 380 is worth the increase in performance. As for your other parts, I don't know what to say. They're all essential parts of a PC to be honest. Are you more focused on aesthetics?
