$100-$150 speakers

I don't really know much about computer speakers at this low price point, but the Micca MB42x are really popular, and they have a powered version that doesn't need an amp, the PB42x. They would be a safe choice. However, one of the reviews on Amazon and a guy on Reddit states that the Micca is too mid-forward. Maybe the Mackie CR3 or CR4 is worth looking at.

How expensive would an amp be for the first one? Also i couldn't find the second one you mentioned

Whoops, I misspelled it. It's the PB42x, not the P42x. http://www.amazon.com/Micca-PB42X-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00NXAEPDC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451259363&sr=8-1&keywords=micca+pb42x

The Lepai amp is mentioned a lot in conjunction with the Miccas, so they should be a sufficient pair: http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020A-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451259071&sr=8-1&keywords=lepai+amp

If you have the budget, the Amphony microFidelity 200 might give you more volume with less distortion: http://www.amphony.com/products/mini-amplifier.htm

You'll need speaker wire, too.

There is  a lot of good info in these videos I would check them out:

They talk about when you would and wouldn't want or need an amp as well as good options.

Have you heard the CR3 in-person? If so, what do you think of it?

I have a mackie CR3 sitting on my desk. The bass is just so-so, since it doesn't come with a separated subwoofer. However, the music sounds rich and has a weight to it. This is something that in general you won't get from a small satellite speaker with a subwoofer due to the driver size of the speaker.

Overall, it's a great near-field computer studio monitor. If you're looking for a speaker you can listen to while going around the room / house, I'd recommend looking at MB42X with some amplifier and add a subwoofer
