If your reading this then you have come across my build log of my first pc build i started planning at the beginning of 2015 when i first saw this build on Gamespot.

I wanted my build to be future proof up to about a year or at least with one or two upgrades or additions to 2 years. So i went with the evga x99 micro 2 motherboard for the support of c usb and ddr4 ram not to mention the blistering speed of a m.2 m support on it for a ssd. I'm honestly still really noob at building and what makes sense but i didn't want to run into any bottlenecks so i decide i would wait till 2016 tax return to buy my 980 ti's so i could have them both run together. If not that maybe a titanx and the rest on the oclus rift consumer version this whole build is planned to run. The micro atx was a must do to the limitations on space and need for slightly more than normal transportability. I have almost all the parts i need as of 12/27/15 except for the motherboard, cpu cooler and gpu which i plan to get next year. Here is the final parts list of this build.http://pcpartpicker.com/user/wonderous1/saved/#view=LCk323

If you have any advice or comments please let me know. Advice would be greatly appreciated like which specific m.2 ssd would fit in that motherboard and likely not get in the way of other parts of my build.

You're better off with a 390 and a free-sync display as far as gaming goes

otherwise just get a standard 2.5" SSD, unless you go PCI-e the M.2 isn't worth it, and a PCI-e SSD isn't worth it anyways

Also the only thing that's future proof is your case

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

  • 4 weeks later...

Reason i added no ram was because i was told that ram wont really effect my build as long as it's at least a well named brand and it's not the cheapest stuff on the shelf. Oculus only needs 8 gbs of ram to run. and i ll take your advice on just a normal 2.5 inch. And i'm kinda shocked that literally nothing is future proof at least to a year in this build. Building computers is an expensive hobby i guess . Anyways since i posted this i have changed to running with one titan x and 2x8GB of DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaw clocked at 3200 for about 70$ on the newegg site. Yes it is DDR4 and yes for some reason i got lucky on the pricing by abit. I went with the samsung 850 evo 2.5 500GB for the SSD.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/my82hM This is the 100 percent accurate state of my build. I have a lot in it because i have had good price and rebate the showed up during the purchasing months. this build honestly started all the way back in August which was when i purchased my power supply as my first pc part.

i would get a 980 ti from evga. choose from the following:

  1. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-5998-KR
  2. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-4998-KR

two of the best 980 ti models out there right now ^

in terms of an ssd, i would go with this:

i actually looked at the Kingpin awhile ago but now that alot of them have been sold the rest are selling for a premium of like more then 1000+ and yeah i know it has three phases for if you brick a bois which if you're new to overclocking and that kinda stuff makes it easier for you to not hate yourself too hard. I've also heard that the titan x is honestly only for people who are trying to do like game design or are trying to run the most trying programs like companies. it wasn't exactly targeted for the average gamer. The Gpu i would love more opinions on because i'm so confused on what i should do there. Buy one expensive card, buy two alittle cheaper cards, wait for Volta which i hadn't heard of until someone linked me to a site and that blew my mind :blink:then the soon pascal
