Build update, is this still OK ?

Ginka

Hey guys,

Last summer I planned to build my first rig. I initially wanted to buy everything in September, But I had some troubles and started my new job later than expected. Any way, now I got ''dat money'' and am ready to start build.

However, things move fast, and I would like to know if my rig is still up-to-date.

I'll mostly game on my computer.

The CPU will be overclocked eventually. I want the hyper-threading since some new games are using it, or will >>> star citizen

I'll wait to see my build temperature to decide if I buy some noctua fans or not.

Concerning the case, I may switch to a 750D, depending on the price.

Thx guys, as always :)

Hey guys,

Looks great!

Although, I understand the reason for going with Dominator Platinums, the price is just not worth it.

And,

Get a 850 Evo, rather than a 850 Pro. You won't be able to tell the difference.

With the saving,  you get a better motherboard ( The motherboard chosen it good either way) or larger HDD.

I'd change a few things on there.

I'd go with skylakes 6700k/ROG mobo

Monitor you may be better off getting the acer equivalent

edit: also ddr4 cuz skyboss

Thx for your help :)

Well I considered skylake first but the going from the 4790k to 6700k is +100$ And the difference is not the great. especially for me who will mostly be gaming.

Is that case, going for haswell is better right ?

do ddr3 and ddr4 really change anything in gaming ?

Looks great!

I'll go gor the evo then^^ :)

Any good recommendation for the ram ? I liked the style of the dominator ^^

I think 1TB is enough for me, I tend to delete a lot of things as time goes. I have been on a 500 Gigs HDD for 4 years now, and it is only half full^^

so If I had to choose between a better HDD or mobo, I'd go for MOBO

I don't understand shit with motherboards though. Any good recommendation within the same range of price ?

Went with a good ol' hexacore 5820K processor. Took out the unnecessary Dominator Platinums, way too overkill for a build like this and managed your HDD and SSD. Other than that, your build looks great!

I don't get it for the CPU. Why switch from a 4790k to a 5820k ?

The 4790k is better for games right, since it handle better the single core work. Also the 5820k seems to be more expensive^^.

To be honest, you're right. But with the benefits of DDR4 and utilisation of multiple cores in games such as BF4, MGSV, GTA V and pretty much any CPU intensive game, I went with the 5820K. $40 isn't too much for that and the 4790K is also perfectly acceptable.

ddr3 and ddr4 do not make that big of a difference for games right ?

I am not sure about that though

No, they don't. Although DDR4 is faster and more powerful. The only argument to have DDR4 for gaming is that it is gradually becoming standardised. Prices have fallen 40% so that says something. But yeah, you can decide between the Z97 & 4790K or the X99 & 5820K. One will be better than the other in games that use multiple cores and vice versa. But go with different RAM and the HDD and SSD setup I recommended so you will at least save some money anyway :)

I'll keep the 4790k.

Do you have any good recommendation for the mobo in the same range of price? . I choose this one because I know it was compatible. But I don't know shit about mobo.

Your mobo is fine. Here is the recommended build. All in all, you will save around $160 USD for something that will perform pretty much the same as your initial build.
