It'll work well if the MOBO has a SATA III port.

so backwards compatible like USB?

Yeah. The connector is the same for every sata version, just the controller is different.

ok also is there a way to clone the hdd to the SSD so like all the files and programs can go over?

It'll still run SATA 1 if it has to

 

It'll just run slower if it;s lower than SATA III due to a lack of transfer speed.

so that will clone every thing so it would be the same like only speed different with the SSD?

Yes, and you'll have to make sure to turn off things like Disk Defragmentation.
