hi

whats more harmful to the longevity of the drive .(my pc stays pretty cool internally w/lots of fans and power consumption doesnt bother me)

the hard drive will be used most of the day mainly for storage will be tons of writes throughout the day but also maybe used for the occasional gaming that wont fit on my ssd's and watching videos off of at night.

is it more harmful to let a wd green spin down every 8 seconds (factory setting) or use the wdidle3 tool and to turn it off the spin down ?

thanks

Hard Drives are pretty smart nowadays, they basically monitor themselves through S.M.A.R.T and automatically report to you any imminent failure.

ok i just thought that it spinning down 100 times a day would maybe be harder on the drive than just leaving on all the time .

Let the drive do its own thing. Slower 5400 rpm drives are ideal for frequent writes, but i would've recommended a wd red instead of a green.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case
