All programs .exe have been turn to .url files

Desbreko

So my wife downloaded and installed some program that I have remove but it now when I install certain programs, and mostly it's my games from steam. The shortcuts and the .exe files have been change to .url files. Am at a lost how to fix this without doing a full reformat of my hard drive. Anyone have any ideas? Also my wife is from Taiwan and she installed a program she uses there called BaiduPlayer. I uninstalled this but has not fix the issue and am at a real lost how to change the .exe files back that launch the games or other files.

If you are using Windows 7, try System Restore and restore to about a week ago or so.

You sir have a virus. Try running an anti virus scan and see if it can clean it up, if not I suggest you reinstall windows.

Well firstly have you done a full computer scan of your anti-virus software? I also recommend doing a full scan of http://www.malwarebytes.org/ *Make sure to install it as a free edition and not the trial edition.

Well I visited BaiduPlayer's website and since I don't understand it I can't identiy FAQ/Troubleshootings, the only thing I have now in mind that may possibly revert your PC's state is to use System Restore. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Also she can use http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html or is there a certain codec/format that her videos will only allow BaiduPlayer to play?

Good advice here. Also VLC is brilliant, I would recommend it to anyone as it would literally play almost any format imaginable.

recommend doing a quick scan on malwarebytes.

and also running ccleaner, registry tool to fix any remaining problems

I dream of 0s and 1s folding to my every command,

algorithms seeping from the back of my head when I need them.

If is a fresh install, you must have some restore points from when you first begun to install all your software, you should check that, it would fix all your problems quickly.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

Also you can check up on the startup entries in msconfig and see anything that may be potentially malicious

1. Click on start menu

2. Type msconfig

3. Press enter

4. Click on the Startup tab

If you find that you're unable to install an antivirus or any removal tools, rename the install file "antivirus.exe" to "antivirus.msi"

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.
