Massive issues with installing GPU

Treppich

Hello, so I was building my rig and had no problems until I tried to install my GPU.

Apparently my GPU (an MSI R9 380 4G) won't fit in the PCIe 3.0 x16 slots on my motherboard (an MSI H97M-G43) due to the fact that the notches on the ram slots block the graphics card from being inserted into the PCIe slot. So I had to install it into the PCIe 2.0 x4 slot, which to me sounds extremely unoptimal? Will there be any dire side effects or bottlenecking caused by that?

I really don't know what to do, judging by what I had to do it seems as though I might have thrown out a lot of performance out the window due to a shoddy mobo design :/

The bottom slot is also X16.

did you push the ram in all the way, so the clips click back in? If so, maybe try it again.

it actually isn't (and you can see it in the picture, look closely at the slots. The gold contacts don't run the full length of the second slot.)

well its atleast x8, because they have a picture with them running 2 gpus, and anyhow, there is NO reason for your GPU not to fit, unless you have a very thick heatspread on the PCB or your rams headsinks really flare out

its a problem on some MSI motherboards, as the little ram button blocks the first card sometimes and sucks attempting to put bulky cards in
