I recently overclocked my i5 2500k to 4.0 ghz and its running at 4.6 ghz and the wierd part is i didnt set the OC to 4.6 and Im cooling it with the stock intel heatsink. I don't know if this is a glich with the task manager readings or if it is running at 4.6 ghz and the temps are around 79* C when gaming and a few programs running. If anyone wants to tell me why this is im curious?

its called turbo boost.

turbo boost does not cause CPU usage to lock at 60% and spike randomly

Its spiking cuz i was tabbed out while the game was running but its a constant 4.6 and its weird because ive had my OC set to 4.0 for the past 6 ish months and it never turboed to 4.6 and the last time i tried OC it over 4.0 to 4.2 my system kept crashing maybe due to something else but yea I'm just suprised I'm not getting higher temps than 79 C.

uuuuh no.....

that's not normal...

if something is using all your CPU it should stay pinned at 100% not stick at 60%

Stop overclocking, get a decent cooler, start overclocking again.

Also ignore task manager. I'm at 4.6GHz and it reads 6.06 for me.

EDIT: You haven't even stress tested it? Then how do you know what temps it's getting up to under load? :/

Seriously just revert to stock until you get a cooler
