First off, this is my first build, and apparently, I lacked some compatibility knowledge, lol.

Now my issue here is that, most things run VERY poorly, despite me feeling I should at least have enough power to run a lot of things on medium settings. But I had asked someone about whether I could run a game and gave my specs, they informed me that my GPU was simply incompatible, so I'm wondering, with my system the way it's setup, what GPU would be best suited for it?

Funny thing is that your onboard graphics are faster than that GT640 you bought. You're better off picking up a 2nd hand R9 280 or HD7950. They can be found for $100-150. Nothing new compares to cards like that in raw performance.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

I noticed that the APU ran things smoother, but not quite 'better'. Less stutter/random FPS drops in things like Space Engineers (which either one I use, I can't get over 15 FPS. -.-), but maybe 1-2 FPS lower than with the GPU. Which makes me wonder if just maybe its just too much load on the APU to use the onboard at the same time?

(Added)

XFX Radeon 280X, all around a better card I'm seeing, but would it solve the supposed 'incompatibility' issue that I was told I'm having?
