Hi guys I am new to this forum,

I am looking for a new GPU for my HTPC. I honestly don't care if it is Nvidia or AMD. I do however care about the points listed below:

  • Low profile
  • Not power hungry
  • HDMI support
  • Ideally under 100 USD/EUR

For me however, the most important thing I need is a GPU scaling software that works with Windows 10. Currently, I am using the Intel GMA software that scales my screen on my TV. Without this kind of software, my taskbar would be hidden underneath the bezel of the TV. Windows 10 unfortunately does not support the Intel GMA software for my computer.

I use my HPTC obviously for streaming HD video, browsing the internet and also the occasional Office. I never game on it...

My PC specs are if anyone needs to know are:

  • Windows 7 HP 64-bit
  • Intel Pentium E5500 2.8 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • 6GB DDR2 RAM
  • Intel Integrated graphics G43/G45
  • 55 inch Sony Bravia TV running at 1920x1080

I appreciate all of your helpful advise in the future,

Regards.

Hey guys, thanks for all your answers

I have decided that now is the time to get a new graphics card and I have now narrowed down my search to the nvidia GeForce gt210 and amd radeon HD 5450. Out of these two, which do you think is best?

Thanks again for your support, you are really helping me out a lot!

GeForce 9600GT

[emoji1]

Hey there,

Thanks for the reply, the GeForce 9600GT looks too large to fit in a HTPC case. My friend as the 8800GT and that thing is huge! I am looking more in the lower range of graphics cards. What do you think of Nvidia's standard GeForce series (like the GT210, GT610 etc.)?

Can I recommend Nvidia purely because they have more option for this kind of stuff. Maybe try a 720 gt. However I do not know if it has scaling. I do know that AMD have pretty good scaling on things like their r7 360 but I'm not sure if anything below that has it. It probably does, do a bit of research.

Hello there Brennan_Price,

I have just researched the R7 360 and for my needs it is way too extreme. I am also pretty sure that it won't fit in my case as well. Something basic will do. How about a GT 610? Any ideas on that?

The GT 610 could be a good choice and I don't know why I hadn't thought of it. I did a quick internet search and on NVidia's website it states that it has 'precise image scaling for movies and video'.

This is what you need isn't it? And I am sorry for quoting the R7 360 in my earlier post, I forgot you wanted it for low profile.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello guys, sorry for the late response,

I have finally decided on a new video card, as this is my main PC and as my knowladge in PC graphics is very low, I intended on getting a strong but reasonably priced GPU. My initial budget was around 80 EUR and the graphics card I have chosen is a lot less than that...

I currently own an ASUS EAH5450 GPU which I am quite happy with for an older machine of mine. I decided that I wanted to stick with AMD and then I went out and purchased a Sapphire HD6450 for about 40 EUR. This is the right graphics card for me because:

  • It was well priced
  • It handles HD video streaming
  • Supports Windows 10
  • Comes with LP bracket

The best part of all however is that my TV actually recognizes the graphics card and that I don't have to do any of that scaling or anything like that. I have even noticed that I am getting a better sound through my HDMI port!

So I would like to say thank you to all the advise I have received and I will be using this forum a lot more1
