So I wanted to buy an R9 380 4GB, but it seems that the 960 4GB here is just way cheaper.

I know the 380 is a bit better than the 960, but I wanted to know if it's actually worth going with 960, if I am on a tight budget.

I can afford having a slightly weaker card, but I know that it has a 128-bit memory bus, and I am not really sure how it affects the card.

It it has 4GB of VRAM, I heard the 128bit memory bus can bottleneck that.

I am still not sure, on what I should get, so if someone could help me, it would be awesome.

By the way, I am not an AMD fanboy neither I am a NVIDIA fanboy, I owned cards by both companies and never had any problems with them.

So I just need honest opinions, and reasons why in that case it would be getting that card.

Can you look up prices on an R9 280, 280X and 285?  They're all faster than a 960.

Price to performance is what matters, if the 380s are more expensive and therefor out of budget getting a 960 is logical if it is significantly cheaper.

Actually it doesn't really matter. The price difference is only 20€.

The 960 4GB MSI is 230€

The R9 380 4GB is 250€

I'm pretty sure I know who's the clear winner.-

R9 380 is 15% faster. your call

I'm not a huge fan of AMD graphics cards, but its a biased opinion because I've had several die on me over the years. Also Gsync is nice.

Would the 128bit memory bus make a difference?

That's what I want to know about the card.

Will it bottleneck the card if I will get it with 4GB VRAM?

Yes - the 128-bit bus is a major bottleneck and probably the biggest reason the R9 380 is so far ahead

Major bottleneck as in 10-15% difference?

I am really thinking of going with the GTX 960 4GB, for couple of reasons

The 960 can overclock better than the 380

Even though the 128bit memory bus sucks, it seems that there's not a big performance difference on 1080p, which I will be playing my games on

It's also 20€ cheaper, but it keeps doing down, and I expect a huge sale on the 960 card on christmas.

However, I still have some time to think about it. If I am being wrong, it would be nice if you could help me. It seems that there's a difference only on couple of the games, but the performance difference were huge on Far Cry 4.

Looking at the difference on Far Cry 4, I am starting to think that even if I get the 4GB version of the 960, the newer games will start to run WAY better on the 380. Not so much on current games.

Depends on the games you play. If you play Gameworks games you'll be disappointed in the 380. If not then the 380 is a good option.

not really - even then the 380 is ahead - look above

Just keep in mind that's a OCed 960 vs a stock 380 - 380 can also get a pretty good OC of 1150-1200-1250 (though not always 1250) which takes things right back as they are at both stock since Nvidia have fewer cores at higher clocks whereas AMD have more cores are lower clocks

Yes but average/peak fps is not as important as this forum makes it. Play the games, minimum fps is what makes or breaks a game experience. And minimum fps is issue with Gameworks games.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Is shit on Nvidia too - tried Witcher 3 with GM107 and it's the same crap you get in terms of minimum drops - even on low you go bellow 30

I've used a MSI R9 380 2G, it was an awesome gpu.

It was able to max out War Thunder (A very beautiful and graphical intense game) for 50fps on 1080p in Ground Forces well using only 50% of its VRAM....

Just get the AMD mate.
