Suspicious.cloud.9.B

Norton (don't judge) has just flagged up a suspicious.cloud.9.B in my file bite068.tmp

I have done some reasearch but can't seem to find a huge amount about it.
If any of you have any ideas please let me know.

Cheers
Joe :)

dude, seriously, i try to keep myself humane but..

fuck off.

yes, norton is a system hog, yes it gets false positives sometimes, but they aim at users that GLADLY take that hit to be sure their system is 100% secure. trough 5 years of running norton i've only had one false positive, and i've never encountered this "problem" with uninstalling norton being "impossible".

its an expensive piece of software, but it does exactly what its intended to do, and does it well. it is not aimed at gamers that notice the perfomance hit, its aimed at office folks that notice they're suddenly a whole bunch more secure.

EDIT: sorry, i had to make it a tad more clear...

What's the full path of the suspect file?

How to create a strong password

Size does not matter; it's how you use it

Here's my issue. I have had a lot of PCs that i had to "fix" over these false positives. So my time is more valuable that uninstalling the crap software Norton puts out. I use a free AV software and run malwarebytes over it, also free, and have had better results with no issues, Yes its more manual labor but its so much better than worrying about Norton killing your PC.

So i will voice my opinion as i will because when it comes to computer resources, i would rather be safer and still have the resources to do things a PC should ACTUALLY be doing. LOL.

I personally dont believe Norton is worth the price you have to pay for it. Thats the underlying factor.

I think you've missed @manikyath 's point. Norton is for those people who need the level of security that will hog resources and give false positives to ensure that their customers' data remains secure.

well.. here's my side.

norton 2010 - 2015, 3 computers each time -> 15 installs.

no problems at all. never, not anything.

except one system.. that was running the setup you just described, i dont know how it happened, but it was infested with crap within a month.

and i consider "keeping yourself safe" is something worth spending resources on.

also on the false positives: you can tell norton to ignore it, and i'm pretty sure you'd rather have a false positive you can set to ignore, than a "false negative" that steals all your "important documents".

my local system builders used to sell norton with all their computers (they have since moved on to bullguard, because they got offered a contract, and norton also no longer applies to their market.) and they never had any issues with norton itself, which may actually be their biggest success story, because my system i got from them fell apart...

I understand what you are saying. I have used Norton's Symantec system before and have come accustomed to false positives and things being broken and  slow because of it. I understand that you wish to keep your systems secure as well, as do most system admins. I have been in a situation where "Angry Birds", which had not ever existed on the system before, was magically getting targeted by Symantec and it could not be removed because it DID NOT EXIST. This created havoc on the users computer, warning her over 5 times an hour about the "infection"

I have had the same amount of installs i have had to remove norton on because of false positives. But you know what, here is what it really comes down to. If you are having great success with the software then so be it. If you had issues with a free AV (i use AVG/Avast mostly) and malwarebytes (ran 1 time a week at minimum) and dont prefer that option so be it. I am telling you that the amount of issues Norton has caused and killed PCs over is NOT worth that kind of money to me. Thats how i feel. Never once have i had an issue with other systems. Norton, and Kapersky were the two i had issues with.

Regardless of the above, i never recommend people keep norton, if they enjoy using their PCs to their normal usage extent. If you are safe and secure online and can train yourself to religiously run AV scans, free AV/AM scans are WELL worth switching too. Some security dips, sure maybe, but being cautious online should be common sense now a days.

i've been talking over this with a friend that shares your opinion on norton, and he had this to say:

"tell him to put down the LSD, he clearly had enough"

---

in all seriousness, i've NEVER heard of any form of antivirus killing a system, this more so sounds like an issue in layer 8, and not an issue with the software in place...

To fix that system, i had to reformat the whole PC. I reinstalled the Symantec 4 times with no success,

I have only had 1 PC to date (over 80+ so far) that have not complained, had multiple false positives, or major issues with Norton. I can only tell you what i know.

Also, I dont believe that everyone here or anywhere will share my opinion. Just like i dont care much for AMD, and people fight about that. All about personal experience. I dont like a system hog that doesnt do much more than protect you from using your PC at all, and others think the software is the best. Agree to disagree.

Guys the arguments are ok and all but what about the c9 trojan. I cant get the full path of the suspect file because norton hates me and i can't find it anywhere. i have searched my whole pc to no avail (especially in the temp files). I completely agree with manikyath, i agree that norton sometimes gets false positives and it uses up resources but my pc feels fine (its a pretty decent one) and as snappy as i need it.

I'm not a complete retard on the internet. I use virustotal and my head (maybe something tbroadwater should try) but Norton just sits in the background to act as a net to any stupid mistakes i make (we all make them at some point). I'm thinking that tbroadwater maybe made a mistake by being an ass in this thread but heyy.

thats me views and can someone please help me
Cheers guys

from symantec's website:

Suspicious.Cloud.9.B is a detection technology designed to detect entirely new malware threats without traditional signatures. This technology is aimed at detecting malicious software that has been intentionally mutated or morphed by attackers.

so basicly, its their internal code for "this could potentially be a trojan"

I disagree again. Being an ass would be backing up my totally knowledged posts with no facts to back them up, which i have not done. I also use my head which is why i do not have viruses. So being an ass to me isnt going to help. Regardless i will try to help you anyway.

Norton will not give you the path, have you attempted to search the file name (allow seeing hidden folders) in the root of C:/? this probaby wont work but its worth a try. Also will norton allow you to find the file in a quarantine? Has it been removed already?

What do you think i should do about to xD

honestly, let norton do its thing, if it breaks any software, you know which software caused it. if you're sure the software is trustworthy you can whitelist it, and norton will let it be.

Yeah thats one good thing about AV software. When it detects things, usually it removes them. Gotta read closely to see if they have been removed or not.

I understand, this got heated real fast for no reason. All is well.

this^^ is perfect. Hopefully you have no issues, which you probably wont. But if you do, you know what caused it!

Hmm, thats weird. Is CSGO still working correctly?

And thank you. I love my PC. Looking to add another 970 in the near future just for fun. Never dealt with SLI before and would love the experience. Anyway thank you for the complement.

I feel you. Running the game is only half the battle... and from what i hear about CSGO, mods is the other half.

Yeah i have dreamed of SLI for a while now, and i want to get into it. Maybe mid summer or earlier i will get another one. Wish i would have went for the G1 Gaming but it was to expensive at the time for me.
