Graphics Card Lifetime?

Go to solution Solved by d3sl91,

As long as it's not overheated, surged, etc - indefinately.

Its usually blown caps or bad solder joints (from overheating).

How long do graphics cards last?

ASUS 8500 GT 512Mbyte

This card is my daily driver, anything from light-gaming, browsing, movies, etc.

It just won't give up xD.
How long do graphics cards last without overclock and in good temps, (max 70)

They really last until they just straight up don't support the OS anymore. As long as it does DirectX 9c I think it can run windows 8.1/10

For example my old ATI rage 128 ultra does just Dx7, so I'm not sure if it even suppports windows xp.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

So at this rate, this card will never die? And will forever act as my intergrated graphics? (more powerfulz!!)

But that's also an AGP Card, right ?not pci-e.

So your estimate is that my Card in given situation won't die any time soon (2+ years)?

Well yes it's AGP, so good luck finding a board that supports it and any sort of a modern CPU/RAM among other things. But yeah I own a GeForce 4mx4000 128mb (i think thats the VRAM amount), anywho it still works. Also my 8600 gts 256mb actually does alright in indie/older titles.

Which indie/older games would you recommend ? lol

How long have you had the 8600?

Well I've had my 8600 since like 2009. Replaced the thermal paste a few times and the thermal pads once. Runs cool, still overclocks a bit. I made a review on it: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/446602-nvidia-8600-gts-review/

The only indie I REALLY LIKE that it runs ok is Robocraft. It also runs one of my favorite (non indie games) War Thunder. It runs Arma 2 on like low 720p fine actually, same applies for DayZ mod. MW2 is fine, as well as Runescape, and Minecraft. Hope I helped :D
