Should I get star citizen now or wait for the release? What are your opinions on the game and what do you guys think is fun about it?

I'd wait in case it isn't released in a reasonable amount of time

I bought it and kinda regret it. It looked great, and there is not too much rolling out. Oh well, I guess if I had to decide again, I would wait till the actual release.

Depends, my advice is certainly buy the game if what is there today is something you want, don't buy it for what it will be.  I would ask yourself these 4 questions and then make the decision.  the first two being most critical.  There is the start of a solid game there, but right now it is only the start of it.  There is a lot of fun to be had in what is there, but with so much yet to be built out and the mountains of Bugs that still need to be smashed it is not something I would go into with rose colored glasses.

  • Will your computer run it? - Note even on higher end PC's there have been reports of terrible frame rate in the new release
  • Are you okay/happy with bugs? -Some are funny, some are frustrating, but there are a lot of them currently
  • Do you enjoy Space Dog fighting? - Arena Commander is the most polished and solid part of the game currently.  It stands on it's own IMHO. Racing feels less developed because there is really only one map but it can still be fun.
  • Do you want to float around and explore space?  Crusader  in the Stanton System is so much fun right now, my machine gets like 10FPS and I am still having a blast, EVA-ing from above as a ship lands below you then dropping on top and stealing it has not gotten old yet.  But this is by far the buggiest portion (which makes sense since it is the newest)

Wait what? I don't understand what you're trying to say.

I dislike buying un-finished games, and I was suggesting wait till a finished product (aka a non beta or alpha version) is released, and to not give them money until that

This is what I did. I bought Elite a couple of weeks ago. As for Star Citizen if I put money into it i'm going to wait until there's at least a good sign of some sort of decent release.

How is it? I'm still debating weather or not to dump all that money into a game, since I don't have the most money xD

i'm loving it, steam says I've logged 75 hours (although a few of those will be launcher hours). I'm not sure how much you know about the game or have read about it, so forgive me if I repeat things you already know... It's got quite a high learning curve; you have a few basic tutorials. But once you start the game you're on your own, completely. I think it took about 10 hours to get proficient at it; and I'm still reading up on certain things every so often.

The community is probably the best gaming community I've had the pleasure of knowing, the people on the Elite subreddit and the official forums are really helpful, you get assholes in game; but luckily I've never met any yet. A guy interdicted me (forcefully pulled me out of hyperspace) today, and said to hand over cargo or he'd blow me up. Told him I had no cargo (which I didn't) the basically said ok, and flew off.

People complain about the game in places (like reddit) but hell; people complain over everything I'd personally take them with a pinch of salt. There's certain things that could be improved upon, but over all it's a pretty solid release. I haven't had this much enjoyment from a game in a long long time.

The expansion comes out tomorrow, which comes with the base game; I'd recommend getting it. I've definitely got my monies worth from it; the down side for me is like yourself I don't have much money, so now I'm wanting to upgrade my graphics card, get a HOTAS set up and more things purely just for Elite!

If you buy it let me know and I'll add you in game.

EDIT: I must add I was on the fence for a while over buying Elite, my only regret is not buying it sooner.

and we will live such tragedy in perpetuity.

Thank you! If I do wind up buying it (hopefully I'll get it for Christmas) I will definitely add you!

You're welcome! It plays well and is definitely immersive, the odd few times I've played I haven't realised I've been on it for 5 hours. Also I haven't played with Mouse and keyboard (used a gamepad from the start) if you're using KB&M apparently some of the default bindings are strange but a quick search should show advice on better set ups. Hopefully see you in space!

I got that game about a week ago and it's a space trucking simulator. A GLORIOUSLY AMAZING SPACE TRUCKING SIMULATOR!!!

I have not touched any other games since getting this. It's a beautiful, hands on experience with brutal, satisfying combat and great flying mechanics.

SC might get better one day and if it does and developers will actually deliver, than I'll buy it. For now, it's lottery IMO.
