I originally built this in 2012, when Ivy Bridge was released. I upgraded my GPU from a GTX 660 in 2014, so I don't really want to upgrade that right now. My main problem is that all but one ram slot on my Mobo is dead, so I really only have 4GB of ram right now and that is definitely not enough to do much anymore. (Yes, I have checked the slots with other ram, yes they are definitely dead.) I know for a fact that something needs to be done about that if I want decent performance again. I am a Junior in High School, and the plan from when I built my last PC was to upgrade during Senior year and build a mATX or a mini ITX PC to haul back and forth between the dorms and home. Because of the dead ram slots, though, my current PC is painful for gaming and Photoshop work. With my birthday just passed, and Christmas coming up, I have gotten gift cards and money for PC upgrades. (Yes, I have a job, and yes, I pay for my car with that money. PC parts fall in the non-essential category for me, so I will not pull out of my gas money/savings for this upgrade). If I am buying a new Motherboard, I'd like to get to a smaller form factor for the purposes of hauling it back and forth from school in a little over a year, plus I'd appreciate being able to go to LAN parties and not make everyone come to my house all of the time. I'm honestly lost with what I should do with this upgrade. I love the Bitfenix Prodigy. One of my buddies has one and absolutely loves it. If I upgrade to a smaller form factor, I think that is the case for me.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell... Get a new mobo and a new cooler. The evo probably won't fit in an itx, though I'm not sure. You could get a 120mm water cooler though, like may the corsair h80i. That's all I think you need.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I can't find any small motherboards in Z77 anymore, so I believe that I have to move up to a newer generation. I'd prefer to keep my Hyper 212 - apparently it can fit in most mATX cases.
